Benny boy has an idea.

Ah, there miiiight not be a page Monday- It's time for my Monthly Grandma Migration! Though, I'm not quite sure 100% if it'll be this weekend; she hasn't decided whether she wants to go for sure or not. So, if I don't appear Monday, that's why~

I know robots still don't have the same level of sentience that humans have, but its still kinda sad to have no goals after fulfilling their purpose.

Random trivia! Even if heavily compressed version of my initial blabla!
Normally, you do not even talk about any level of sentience at all or robots displaying any spec of conscience related to their programming or AI.
Words or structures like "feels surroundings", "sentience", "conscience", "robot is aware of its location", "robot realizes something" and so forth are something you can write in an article or paper but good chances are it will be returned with "Could you word this accurately?" or "Robots have none of that. Could you use more accurate/neutral terms?" or someone will mind it when it is out :D
Works in many cases boil down to openings which define the word "robot" as it coming from the Czech word "robota" (similarly in other Slavic languages) that means "labour/work" (and if you want to go waaay back then "robota" evolved from "rob" (EN: "do/work (v)") and that from old Slavic "orbъ" meaning "slave"), as a system meant for often singular purpose capable of some level or autonomy and/or learning operated (initially) by a human.
I would agree they are a sad existence if they even were an existence in the first place :/

Now... The rest is always left for philosophy and fiction and that is perfectly fine and ultimately VERY cool and what is going on in this particular case :D
Walker actually offered RoboGirl something - to continue to function. She could have already detonated or shut down so...

Ahh, this is an interesting read, haha :D
I love AI stuff!

But it is fair, yes, Walker at *least* didn't do anything like put in a kill-switch for when she was done with her work...

I know, right?
She isn't sad about it or anything, but I sure would be... I mean, it'd suck knowing you literally have no purpose remaining and can't make one for yourself.

Geez, that second panel from the end feels like a cover page for my recent life.

This page reminds me of that old Springsteen song, The Killer Robots at the Edge of Town.
Seabiscuit 14th Oct 2018, 10:07 AM edit delete reply
Oh goodness, is that a real song title?? That is amazing.

She can be town security! ...Otherwise, I got nothing. XP
Seabiscuit 14th Oct 2018, 12:23 PM edit delete reply

She can go to the nearest Robot Unemployment Office and see what they got listed.

Alas, she is out of luck!

"no goal beyond all of this."

" work is done, and I'll rest *stops functioning."

or, quite the opposite?

"... I'm free! Yay! I can do what I want! Fun times!"
Seabiscuit 14th Oct 2018, 12:24 PM edit delete reply
Well, she'll keep functioning. As for being able to enjoy life and have fun, well, that's questionable.;)

Sorry, I can't resist quoting this...

Robot: What about the others? Now that I've fulfilled my purpose, I don't know what to do.
Human: I think you'll have to find your way like the rest of us. That's what it means to be free.

-- I, Robot (2004), ending scene
Seabiscuit 14th Oct 2018, 12:24 PM edit delete reply
Aw gosh! Feels. As much as I love robots, I haven't seen that one. I should!

Benny: "You can be my personal robo-maid!". :3

Anne: ┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻
Seabiscuit 14th Oct 2018, 12:24 PM edit delete reply
I'm sure Anne wouldn't be *too* salty, cause robots are cool, but... ;)

New directives for #01:
1: Don't harm humans or fix bombs.
2: Keep Eva company.
3: Do not let yourself be destroyed.
Seabiscuit 18th Oct 2018, 10:00 PM edit delete reply
Haha! I dunno about keeping Eva company. That'd be funny though.;)
