Hi guys I'm Seabiscuit and I can't into night time shading. I had a hell of a time getting the skin color right. It's still not right to me, not dark enough. But I finally gave up after it'd eaten up way too much of my time just PICKING a color...
This was a fun experience tho, haha. I was actually kinda pleased with the night sky. ..And then I had to cover it up with friggin' Eva and her song.
As for what shes singing here, it's an old rhyme about Lizzie Borden, who killed her parents with an axe back in the 1800s or such. Why is she singing it? 'Cause she's a weirdo! ...And it is a rather catchy rhyme. This is the full rhyme, she was just about done really;
'Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.'
Also oh my god. I am SO disgusted.
We found these little bugs in our old spaghetti boxes. UGH.
And so we researched them more, they breed in pasta, but also stuff like spices and things.
...We found them in our spices, bread crumbs, pasta and spaghetti boxes, and our flour...
SO freaking nasty oh my god. We had to throw it all out.
Haha, same here. I don't even mind them in the house (especially like beetles and ladybugs since I can let them back outside), but when they seriously invade my personal space and /breed in my food/ it's a problem hahaha.
Thanks!;D
I still want it darker haha. Ill have to practice on that.
The rhyme definitely sounds like something Eva would sing. XD
Night-time shading is difficult, I know. And you did a good job of it, I'd honestly say.
(We just stopped a bunch of boll weevils in my house from spreading to our pantry, they had holed up in a bag of oats we have for our chickens. At least, I THINK we got rid of them before they got in our stuff.) ;D
Keeping backyard chickens is becoming increasingly popular thanks to the Permaculture movement. They are quieter than dogs and if you hold them and feed them treats out of your hand lots when they are chicks, they will stay tame. So tame that many will run up to you when you enter their pin and let you pick them up. We have 3 right now and are going to get 3 more this spring. We have one named Acorn, one named Lazertron Eggonator(O'l One Eyed Lazertron is her nickname), and one named Pexterexious Radioactive Alpha Peep. Clanjack as he said, also has chickens(I don't remember how many he has or what their names are).
Some breeds are tamer than others and some are more antisocial than others(some breeds are also meaner than others such as game cocks, a highly aggressive bird). I've noticed that leghorns and marans don't normally like being picked up even when socialized but americanas, buff orpingtons, and wyandottes are very good lap chickens.
So I've seen! My dad has one haha. I don't remember what kind it was though. Sadly not allowed where I live. If we had moved just ONE mile up the road then we could have chickens. Pretty crummy deal.
Those are some damn awesome chicken names I gotta say! Pexterexious Radioactive Alpha Peep...That's simply /amazing/. Ahh, I'd like to have chickens. I'd like to have any bird pet though really haha.
O'l One Eyed Lazertron got her nickname shortly after a raccoon got into our chicken coop(we forgot to close the coop door after they had gone to bed) and tried to drag her off to eat. Our coop is right outside my window and I happened to hear the struggle. I ran outside which scared the raccoon away but Lazertron's eye had been put out. She lived though and is doing quite well now.
We got our chickens maybe 3 or 4 years ago and three of them have since died(we started out with 6 chickens). This is why we are going to get 3 more this spring. Ms Poultrious Bawk Bawk and Ms Lilac Luna Pumpkintoes Fairy Killer Extraordinaire died of a kind of worm called gapeworm, a parasite that eventually strangles your chickens and causes them to sound horse, like they have a frog in their throat(If caught early, it can be treated with a de-wormer designed for horses). Combustionspur Lavabeak got killed by raccoons in broad daylight shortly after O'l One Eyed Lazertron lost her eye.
Awww man that's sad! At least she survived the encounter.:c
Aww! That's a shame about the other chickens, I'm sorry to hear it! They had some awesome names, too...Man, chickens lead surprisingly dangerous lives.
We have since trapped the raccoons and had them relocated far away from our neighborhood. We have silverfoxes and dogs too but they can't climb fences. Just in case we ever left our backyard fence open, when we built our coop, we left around 2 extra feet of chicken wire on the ends of the base fencing of the chicken coop and dug a two and a half-foot moat around the bottom of the coop. Then we layed the extra two feet of wire inside the moat and filled the moat up with concrete and covered it with dirt... A little overkill but it has worked so far. The reason we did that is because canines will try to dig under the fencing for chicken coops to get to the chickens.
Those were some seriously bold raccoons. For years, we never really saw much of our neighborhood raccoons and had never had an attack. After Lazertron got attacked, all the raccoons in our neighborhood suddenly became much bolder. One of our neighbors lost all of her chickens to raccoons right after Lazertron Eggonator lost her eye. After that, Combustionspur Lavabeak was killed. She wasn't even in the coop. She was killed in the chicken run so they must have pounced on her. My grandma(who lives in our neighborhood) had a huge raccoon right after those attacks that would steal all the bird feed from the feeders everyday. One evening we witnessed it run by her house with a squealing song bird in it's mouth. It did not care that we were there. We think that it may have been the parent of the one that got our chickens because we saw plenty of juveniles walking around unafraid of people.
Yeah, I didn't think they did much during the day usually haha.
Man those are some brave raccoons. We had some brave ones in our old neighborhood that would come right up to us. Wasn't really a problem there since there wasn't really anything for them to kill though, heh...
I like this thread about raccoons. Because I'm in the army I've slept outside a lot. One time I woke up to some noises at night near my sleeping bag. I flicked on my flashlight, and there about half a meter from me was a raccoon munching on one of my snacks. What's funny, is that she didn't run away. She just turned and looked at me, grabbed another chip and started eating it. So there she was chewing and staring at me, as bold as could be.
Hahah. That's so adorable! I love how brave they are.
...Truth be told, I'd always wanted a raccoon as a pet haha. But my true dream pet will always be a skunk.;D
Heh! Lindsay Gordon.:D
It's a pretty addicting rhyme, for sure!
Ugh, yeah, it was the worst! They weren't weevils, though. I don't know what they were haha. Just...Gross. Some kind of gnat maybe, we have a lot of them flying around.
Sounds like weevils? They usually go after wheat though and we've had a problem with them before too. Nasty little buggers. X-[. And also, I've read a lot about Lizzie Borden, that psychopath haha. She's been the focus of a LOT of documentaries and I'm a documentary junkie. Eva is definitely a psycho singing that song. X-D
Also, is this a meet cute between her and Sean? Romance perhaps? X-D
Haha, it wasn't weevils. I don't know exactly what they are. Just nasty critters. Heh, she really was a psycho! And so the perfect song for Eva to sing.;D
Lighting night time is very tricky. There are several ways to do it but in the end it's just what looks right to you. I personally think that you did a good job with this page as it really adheres to your style. Keep up the good work!
Good job with the nighttime shading. I love Eva and her demented little song.
Thanks!;D

Heh, thank you!:D
(Oh jeez gross!D: At least you stopped the invasion!
...You have chickens? Damn, that's cool!)

Wow, that's some nifty protection! They're lucky to have you guys.;D

I feel so bad for you with the bugs! :( I can't stand when the get in the food. They aren't weevils, are they?
It's a pretty addicting rhyme, for sure!

"Oh nothing wrong here just kicking a garbage can"
Heh, heh, yup.;D
I'm with you though, shading night scenes is tough. O_o
It is, it really is! Damn.
(And cool new avatar!)
Also, is this a meet cute between her and Sean? Romance perhaps? X-D
HEH, cute? Romance? We'll see, we'll see.
Hahah. True enough. But surely Eva can handle herself.;D
Nighttime in general has always been so beautiful to me, so I hope to perfect coloring it someday.;D
